The incredible Irish harpist Maria Cleary and favorite soprano Clara Rottsolk join Les Délices for this program that imagines Dido, queen of Carthage, famously deserted by Aeneas. Culminating in Purcell’s famous lament “When I am laid in earth” from Dido and Aeneas, they’ll also perform excerpts from Cavalli’s opera Didone, and Montéclair’s La Mort de Didon. Harp solos and improvisations plus chamber music by Purcell complete the program.
Pre-Concert Lecture at 3pm by Dr. Susan McClary.
