These concerts will feature motets and choral works by J. S. Bach, along with choral masterpieces by Mendelssohn and Brahms, two composers who were profoundly influenced by the Cantor of Leipzig and sought to emulate his style. Bach’s exquisite cantata 131, “Out of the depths I call to thee,” is one of his earliest, composed at the age of 22. And his motet settings, for double chorus and instruments, became the inspiration for future generations of composers.
